McCormick Takes Top Prize

logo-missouri-writers-guildCongratulations to Lisa McCormick who won first place honors in the 2009 Missouri Writer’s Guild Contest for Best Juvenile Short Work. Her story, “The Gift of Giving,” appeared in Dogs for Kids magazine and featured kids who asked their families and friends to make donations to animal organizations instead of giving them presents for the special events in their lives. Great work, Lisa!

“I really begin with some kind of solid, coherent image, some notion of the shape of the book and even of its texture. The Poorhouse Fair was meant to have a sort of wide shape. Rabbit, Run was kind of zigzag, The Centaur was sort of a sandwich.” – John Updike
